Stone Soup: Thursday 22nd September

I invite you to join me for live music, adventures and fables at Stone Soup this Thursday. It’s a lovely night, a listening audience (normally around 30 folks), a warm friendly atmosphere and no stag or hen parties. There’s more below but I’ll be sharing poems, a comedy horse song and some stories from Banana me beautiful, just like my fringe show. If you’re on facebook, the event is here. The stone soup mix is (big thanks to Elspeth Murray for writing my bit):

Rory Butler recorded his first proper EP aged 15 while growing up in Leith, following hard on the heels of early classics such as ‘Do it yourself’. He now studies in Glasgow and has just released his first album ‘Naked Trees’, launched recently at the Solas festival. He acknowledges the influence of John Martyn and Nick Drake but he is his own man. www.rorybutler.co.uk/index.php

Emily Dodd is a disarmingly charming perfomer. She blends stories, poems and songs – not only from her podcasting, science-celebrating adulthood, but from her some of her younger banana-painting, wide-eyed child artist selves as well. There may be puffins and a visit from the Queen – but come just as you are. Emily tweets as @auntyemily. https://auntyemily.wordpress.com/about/

Combo Combo blends celtic, blues, jazz influences with the rhythmns of Africa and Brazil. The members of this trio from Edinburgh (Cassy  McCormack – vocals, Iain Mackechnie – guitars, Pat McCann – percussion) have toured widely and performed throughout the UK. A welcome return visit to Stone Soup. www.myspace.com/combocombocombocombo/comments#!/combocombocombocombo

davesnewbike play rootsy pop music for grown-ups. This five piece from Stirling, Edinburgh and the Borders are your hosts for the evening. Blame it all on them www.myspace.com/davesnewbike

Stone Soup doors 7.30pm, Thursday 22nd September, Maggies Chamber, The Three Sisters, The Cowgate, Edinburgh. Soup is served at 8pm (not real soup, it’s the performers).
