Hello Barra

I’m heading to the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides next week to deliver waste and energy workshops on behalf of Changeworks.

On Monday I’ll be training all 30 pupils in Eoligarry Primary School to be Zero Waste Heroes. We’ll learn about the Journey of Waste and what we can do to reduce. reuse and recycle in an assembly and we’ll be singing compost songs and making compost in bottles in the afternoon.

On Tuesday I’ll be delivering a similiar programme for Craigston Primary School but with the addition of an assembly with the Secondary School and a Waste Audit with P4-P7. That’s seperating and weighing all the waste produced by the 70 pupils (and teachers) in the primary school in one day. They’re being assessed for their Eco Schools Green Flag that day too, very exciting!

On Wednesday I’m at Castlebay Secondary School running ‘Energy Awareness and Citizenship’ workshops with S5 and S6, ‘How to Promote your Project’ workshops with S3 and S4. I’ll also be running a maths lesson with P4 – P7 (using Tuesday’s Waste Audit results) and I’ll be taking Coco the Bear to meet the Castle Bay Pre School Children for story time, phew!

On Thursday I return home to Edinburgh.

Barra Airport is the beach! Here’s a video, yes this will be me on Monday morning, touching down in the ‘twin otter’, yikes! What if there’s a big jellyfish on the runway? Or a Seagull drops a sharp crabs claw and it pops the plane’s tyres?
